Audio hardware problem

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-05 20:18

Okay, well I suck at hardware knowledge so here goes.
I have a nice set of speakers for my comp, also has a subwoofer, whatever eh? I want to hear game audio on those speakers. Those speakers for my comp came with a Y adapter to attach the audio cables for the ps2. Well, whenever I listen to play a ps2 game, I unhook the speaker from my comp to my ps2. After a while it gets repetitive, so I want to hook them up both so I can quit fumbling with hooking/unhooking.
Now its obvious I should get a Y adapter with 2 prongs and one socket, one for my comp, on for my ps2 and the socket for the speaker jack. So I did just that a while ago, and lo and behold it splits the signal meaning sound comes only from the right or left speaker only. So I decided to experient with a Y adapter that had only 1 jack, and 2 sockets, and I bought a cable with only jacks at the end. What I would do is I would hook one end of the jack cable to my comp and the other to the Y adapter thats attached to the speaker so the signal isnt split. Well, this difficult to explain method works well for my ps2, but my for comp it only gets a distorted sound.
So I suck and dont know what to do.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated. This was a bit difficult to explain and Ill be glad to rehash if you have trouble reading this.

What you need is a mini-jack hub (basically a little box with X inputs and one output). This'll let you switch between inputs with the push of a button/flip of a switch. Alternatively you'll need a 2 or more ports mixer (which is what you've been trying to use your current equipment as, something that doesn't work too well), though these cost a lot more. Hubs for jacks, phono cables and whatnot can be found at a pretty decent price, but since I don't live in the US I've no idea what stores carry these.

In case there was any confusion; the hub will let you listen to any input signal, but only one at a time. The mixer will let you listen to all of them at the same time, but like I said probably costs a lot more.
