I want to buy a printer capable of printing large posters, but I don't know what I should search for, or what's important in a printer. Could someone point me in the right direction?

You want wide format printers. These will cost you an arm and a leg. Epson's printer that does 44" wide is $5,000. Their next smallest model that does 24" wide is $3,000. And that's if you don't want the professional model.
