Question about Plasma HDTVs

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-31 0:55

I heard that plasma HDTVs usually have a problem with it's color brightness fading to around half of it's original brightness around 8,000 hours of use.  Does anybody who owns a plasma notice this effect or is this BS?

That used to be true, but the manufacturers are continuously tweaking the chemical makeup of the phosphors. Now they are claiming 50,000+ hours. So, make sure you get the latest, because the difference between a new model and a set manufactured just three years ago is significant.

Just get a freaking DLP or an LCD, plasmas are too expensive to fix, and just because they "claim" 50,000 hours doesn't mean it will do it. Besides, the newest DLP's and LCD's look just as good and they are way cheaper.

Don't change these.
