I've wanted to get something like the Creative Zen Vision for some time now, but I don't want to spend the $400. Looking around, I saw the Archos Gmini 402 as a reasonable alternative for a lot cheaper (only $237 on Amazon), but I can't say I really trust a company that I've never heard of before.
So... Zen Vision or Archos Gmini? Or what else would you recommend (not PSP or iPod Video)?

I own a Iriver H10 6GB player and I love it, there are always new features because the company keeps making new firmware for it and at the moment people on mysticriver are creating ways to change the background graphics and fonts and other cool things. The player comes with mp3/wav/wma support and maybe a few others. A Fm radio and picture viewer.
The battery is removable so you won't have to get a whole new player when or if the battery does decide to fuck up.
Although the sound quality does lack it is still a good player, if something isn't to your liking it might be fixed in the next firmware update.

Er, I was thinking something that could play video. Guess I wasn't clear enough.

The Archos isn't bad, but be warned. None of the current Archos players support Qpel Estimation, or GMC, which can be a problem if you're trying to playback a more adventurous Xvid encode.
Most archos units also support only MP3 or PCM audio for playback, so if you're encoding in something else like AC3 or Theora, you're outta luck.
FWIW, consider picking up a copy of Dr. DivX if you're gonna get a portable media player. All of the Archos media players will support the DivX portable device profile, making transcoding a one click affair.
