Best [Portable] DivX Player?

Name: Anonymous 2005-04-22 23:28

So, here's the deal. Like a lot of members here, I watch a good bit of anime. Also like many members, I really do not like watching these fansubs on my PC for a few reasons, inclucing comfort, technical reasons (i.e. screen size, speaker setup), and of course hard drive space. So, it seems to be in my best interest to buy a portable DivX player. I already have a Philips DVP642 DVD player, but the problem is that I have a TON of files, and no DVD burner (not that this would be much more convenient). I've heard of a few products, such as the MVOLT100 (http://www.wigobyte.com/eng/product/product_mmp_1.php). However, like most that I've seen, this seems to be from some unknown Asian company who I have no idea how reliable they are (they don't even have a purchase page). So, I'm asking everyone here what their experiences have been with these types of players. I'm looking for something with a USB or FireWire (prefered) connection that I can easily move between my TV and computer for file transfer (or even with some kind of wireless capabilities) and that has at least 120 GB of space (easy upgradability would be awfully nice). Price wise, I'm really not interested in anything over $300 ($200 or so would be preferable). Thanks for any help.

A 20$ scan convertor so you can output from PC to TV is a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle for the home scenario anyway.  Really long s-video cables are out there and don't degrade the signal very much as well.

Most hardware portable players (ie. not Linux, etc. where you control the software) require transcoding which is a PITA since fansubbers like to use advanced features the hardware decoding chips don't support.

Go buy a XviD compatible DVD player that has a USB connector so you can connect a USB harddrive to it. Hook the DVD player toyour computer, and have the portable hard drive of size you want connected to that. Easy as fuck.
