S-JIS is "Shift JIS" which is the character system used to encode Japanese. It's the most diverse characterset for making images because of all the extra characters that are built in. It even has the cyrillic and roman alphabets and mathematical symbols. JOY!

Yes, this board moves rather slow. On the text boards, stuff from 6 months ago still being available isn't uncommon. It's text, so it doesn't take up much space to keep it. What takes up a lot of space is starting new threads, which doesn't seem to happen all that often on most of these text boards.
