it only takes 3 years to become a geologist.

I don't think that you are allowed to call yourself a geologist just because you got one degree in it. You aren't allowed to call yourself anything just because you got one degree in it, unless it's one of the traditional professions such as law but even then you have to pass a special professional test unrelated to the specific school you were at. So I think that you are mistaken. Also, different schools and countries have different lengths of degree programs.

What constitutes a "real science", and how does one "become" a geologist, or any other sort of scientist?
If we narrow the definition of "real science", and similarly apply it to "becoming" a scientist, to only include anything you need a 4+ year degree for, then we end up putting lawyers in with "real scientists".
