Books

Howdy

I'm purchasing a book on Science Communication from amazon.uk, and in order to be eligible for super-saver delivery I need to purchase something else in order to reach 25 pounds.

Any suggestions for science-related books?

Presently reading:
-The accidental mind (David Linden)
-On Intelligence (Jeff Hawkins)
-A Foray into the Worlds of Animals and Humans (Jakob von Üexkull) (second read, already read it back when I was 14)

Here are my areas of interest:
-Neurology
-Neuroengineering
-Transhumanism
-Theoretical biology
-Quantum physics (introductory level, only had one physics course so far)

Could be about anything else though

On Intelligence was pretty awesome

If you're interested in quantum physics, Introduction to Solid State Mechanics by Charles Kittel (ISBN: 978-0-471-41526-8) is an interesting read.  It's a little above the introductory level though since it's completely focused on applying quantum physics to understanding crystalline and quasi-cystalline systems.

Modern Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Taylor, Zafiratos, and Dubson is a reasonable 1st year book, but it only explores quantum physics insofar that it's a comprehensive modern physics book and needs to explain why/when classical models aren't appropriate.

I have struggled through half of it and it has taken me a year.  I kind of quit reading it because it's like some kind of punishment.
