At my work there is a jellybean contest. It is a 3 quart or 12 cup jar filled with jelly beans. I am not sure what the formula is supposed to be for figuring out how many jellybeans are in the jar, but I do know that I need to use the mass of the jellybeans and how big the jar is (3 quarts/12 cups)into a formula. Can someone help me find such a formula? I would really appreciate it. Thx!

hmm. Buy a small amount of jellybeans and put them into graduated cylinder (or maybe measuring cup would do) and figure out number of jellybeans per fluid ounce of volume. Then convert 3 quarts to fluid ounces, and multiply that number by the number of jellybeans per fluid ounce. But if you must use mass of jellybeans, then also measure the mass (by weighing) of your small amount of jellybeans and figure how much mass of jellybeans there is per fluid ounce, and also figure an average mass for a single jellybean. Then you can take 3 quarts, convert to fluid ounces, multiply by mass per fluid ounce, then divide by mass of average jellybean.
number of beans = volume capacity of jar x (mass of sample of beans / volume of sample of beans) / (mass of sample of beans / number of beans in sample)
If you were meant to weigh the entire jar of beans instead, you would have to know the mass of the jar alone and subtract that out, and then volume becomes unnecessary in further calculation.
