Something about protecting the developing young, also I think that most mammals need to breastfeed right outta the gate, so being in an egg would kind of fuck you over. I dunno.

Perhaps at one point, there was a reptilian species, who were quite fond of snatching eggs from other reptiles. These reptiles might have been so succesful that their intelligence/sentience increased to a level similar to that of Homo Erectus. It is possible that as their culture spread around the world, their egg-snatching habits led to a decline in other reptilian species. It is speculated, that a culture where exclusive egg-eating was so ingrained, would be disgusted when they came upon an animal that gave birth to live creatures and would refuse to eat the younglings. Some even believe it is likely that their Goddess (Drakan) would greatly disapprove of the eating of mamalian younglings and that the reptilians who sinned against this rule would be punished by having their scales ripped off one by one. Such a situation would be considered ideal for the mammalian species to propagate themselves, as the most succesful predator at the time would not hunt them, and put pressure on other reptilian predators by snatching their eggs.
