What is the evolutionary advantage of living in 3 dimensions rather than 2 or 4?

2 dimensions has very little freedom, 4 dimensions has too much freedom. Given the mass of our galaxy, a 2 dimensional world would make us all live in a supermassive blackhole while a 4D world would have everything drift away from everything else.

If you had it you would just wish for 5. There is no pleasing you people.

Wow. what? Learn to |R^n. More mass would not make a difference in greater dimensions.

do we not live in four dimensions?

More mass means more stuff. More stuff means greater chance of stuff bumping in to stuff. When two things collide in one dimension, the dimension expands slightly. A 1 dimensional world would have things guaranteed to collide, a 2 dimensional world would have less of a chance but still a pretty good chance and a 3 dimensional world would have very little chance.
According to string theory, we live in a universe with ATLEAST 10 dimensions. For that matter, OP's question makes no sense to us since we are already in a higher plane of existence.

Don't see what you trying to prove there.

Gravity's too strong in 2 dimensions and too weak in 4 dimensions.

If we consider our contemporary system of animals, they are all digitally encoded (DNA). No form of selection could select for the advantage of dimensions, because the information which encodes for the animal itself is made of 3-dimensional physical structures, moving through time.
