why can't all animals appreciate music?

As title.

music, and dancing are both largely derived from mating rituals, which are vastly different for every species

do you find that erotic? maybe its interesting in a way but it doesn't have the same emotional experience that music or dancing does to you. well thats what our rituals look like to other animals.

there is no objective quality to our art. there is no objective beauty. it is all remnants of our evolutionary beginnings, and those are not universal.

I hope for your own sake you are able to disagree with the above post. if you do not, beware your descent into misanthropy.

Not all animals have the same kind of hearing as we do. some are deaf while others hear frequencies well above what humans can (thats 20,000Hz folks)

All mammals have a concept of an "octave" based on doubling frequency, so their tonal appreciation of music is probably quite similar to ours. They're not bipedal though so their appreciation of rthym might be different.
