Gulf Oil

Sooooooo...does anybody know of any actual process by which the oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill could have actually just......vanished? Y'know, like everyone seems to believe.

Do y'all /sci/entists believe it has vanished?

I recall a ludicrous-sounding suggestion that some of the oil was sinking or not rising to the surface.  Since it's the gulf, I'm not surprised; but, it still doesn't sound like it makes any sense.

actually, my folks live in northwest florida and we talked about the spill a couple days ago. dad said that all the oil did appear to vanish and for the last couple of months there appeared to be an end to the stuff coming up on the beach.

seems recently, in the last couple of weeks, that they (residents, researchers...) have discovered huge "blankets of oil" that are not floating but are being pushed along the floor of the gulf by tidal action. apparently, the 'blankets' are several feet thick and several square miles in size.

no one has figured out yet why this oil isn't floating (as oil is wont to do), but the current guess is because of all the chemicals they dumped on the oil to disperse it.

it seems the problem hasn't just "gone away" as BP keeps trying to tell people, they just can't see it yet.

oh, and BP is about to be sued by several more attorney generals because even though they've set aside that superfund for the businesses affected by the spill, they don't seem to be paying anyone any of the money. apparently the make an impossible set of hoops for the businesses to jump through, and as soon as the business in question clears all the hurdles, they come up with a bunch more hurdles and another mile to run.

so... same old same old... lies and bullshit coming out of the mouths of the corporate shills, the little people fucked over for life.

and the government lockstep with the assholes that caused the problem.

We'll have to wait for the NOVA special on it I guess.  I wanted to say Chinese subs stole it but I guess not
