The significance of 77 + 7 in religion, etc..

A while ago, I watched some religious programs (volume muted) on TV because I couldn't sleep and saw "77 + 7" flash up on the screen.
I'm not very religious, so the programs served as a good sleeping-aid but I was made curious about the significance of certain numbers to people.

Google searches resulted in information on "777" and "7" but I couldn't figure out why "77 + 7" was worth showing.
Anyone know? Does it mean something in non-religious circles as well?

To myself, there are two types of forgiveness.

1) Forgiveness of one who shows signs of regret and remorse for their misdeed.
2) Forgiveness of one who does not know what they do.

The prior is for those who are self-aware, the latter is for those who are not.
