The various string "theories" are not actually theories in the scientific sense of the word. They are not even valid hypotheses. It isn't science. Period.

"String theorists" are basically trying to do science backwards. They are more like a religious cult than scientists.

It would be stupid not to explore the theory to its full extent. I'm sure string theorists more than anyone would want to see evidence of it being false, so they can move on.
