At least there's still people out there with moral character.

Indeed, it is refreshing.

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-24 16:02

And how exactly does refusing the prize make him more moral?

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-24 18:11

He's not particularly moral.  He's a recluse and from what I've heard, a bit out of it.

If he was moral, he'd use the money to help someone who needed it.

One thousandth of one dollar isn't much of a prize anyway.

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-25 2:15

I heard he plays video games on his mom's tv.

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-27 0:04

I out-NEET him by even refusing a steady job! Can I have moral character, too?

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-27 17:22

The russian guy proved some theorem and on the grouns of ethics declined the prize.

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-31 20:44

He sounds like he wants to start writing bad poetry with words like "darkness," "alone," "death," and "suffering" scattered all over the place.  Fuck him.

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-31 21:23

Sounds like he is an queer!

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-01 3:37

So he thought his work was too shit to deserve a prize?  Weird

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-04 3:17

I really admire this guy, that is true character.
But what baffles me is why he doesnt accept it and give it to charity.....

Maybe he is a little off, as most geniuses have their quirks.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-04 4:56

he just doesnt cares. simple.

Fuck charity. He doesnt cares about everything. He win.

At least there's still people out there with moral character.
Not to mention principles.

Also charities pay people to work for them you;d have thought there'd be enough volunteers no? But they are all like PETA.

I volunteer at a local charity (BHF), and one thing you learn is that there are never enough volunteers. I don't mean that in a selfish way, just that the turnover is quite high. The full time workers (we have 2) have pseudo-managerial roles.

It was actually the opposite. His work was the prize. The money didn't mean anything to him.

I see

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-09 20:25

yes, denying charities and less fortunate people a chance to get free money is very moral.

this guy is smart but he's an asshole.

You are such an idiot.  It's not "free money," it came from people who donated money with the intention it gets used to promote mathematical excellence.  He's not motivated by the prize, so he allowed it to get re-invested where it will continue to be used for that purpose.

If the people who funded the prize intended to give it to starving children, they would have done so themselves.  There are other important societal goals than that.

Maybe he or his mother inherited some small amount of money that  they're trying to skirt by on, but it would be a shame if a guy like this ended up homeless ten years from now.

Don't change these.
