Hello, i am trying to get into calculus but i have practically forgotten all of my math skills so im going into some algebra and geometry first, im reading the complete idiots guide to calculus and it is telling me on a point slope form equation that my x variable has to be positive. heres what i have

5y - 10= -x - 5

then it goes to tell me that

x + 5y = 5

Why is the 5 at the end positive when it was negative. it was
"-x + -5" wasn't it? so why is it positive now?

Because in order to move the -10 to the right side of the equation, you have to add 10 to both sides.  The left side then becomes (-10+10), which is 0, and the other side becomes (-5+10), which becomes 5.

Don't change these.
