Welding Aluminum Alloys

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-30 2:23

Hello, /sci/.  I have a question that I thought you would be the best board to ask for an answer to.  I make jewelry, specifically, chainmail jewelry.  I sometimes work in aluminum for more armor-like pieces because of the weight reduction from steel.  I work in two aluminum alloys primarily:  ER5356 and ER4043.  My question is, what is in these two alloys of welding aluminum (other than aluminum itself, of course)?

I don't really need exact percentages or anything (although it would be nice if you have that information) but really even just an answer to "what do they add to aluminum for welding" would be excellent.

Thanks, /sci/.

Hmm, you don't think I already tried that?  Interestingly enough, I'm actually not seeing any results there that detail the composition of the alloys.

VERY helpful.

Thank you.  Much appreciated.

Don't change these.
