String theory has produced the AdS/CFT correspondence within the last decade. This correspondence has been applied to strongly coupled systems like quark/gluon plasmas and certain condensed matter systems to bring them into a weakly coupled gravity dual, thus making them tractable to perturbation theory.
The AdS/CFT correspondence is still pure conjecture, just like the String bullshit. Way to fail, genius.
You are absolutely correct, OP. String Theory is not Science. Thankfully, it is still fringe among actual physicists, but it has rapidly gained ground among students and laymen. This book may be of interest to you:

Pure conjecture? Why don't you tell that to the condensed matter theorists? AdS5xS5 has essentially been beaten to death (as in, it's so well researched that it's accepted to be true). All it's lacking is a full mathematical proof.
I can't say much about the rest of string theory, but I can say it's definitely not "fringe".
