Interior of a Micelle in Pure Water?

If you place amphipathic lipids in pure water and they form a micelle, the hydrophobic part will be on the inside and the hydrophilic part will be on the outside.

The question is: since the water is exluded from the interior, what is on the inside other than the hydrophobic tails? What is in the empty regions of the interior of the micelle?

Depends on the molecule forming the micelle, really. Could be water, could be empty space that the tails wiggle around in due to van der waals.

If there is nothing inside the micelle the hydrophobic tails pack tightly together, so the inside isn't really empty- it's crammed full with the tails.
