Car underwater

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-31 10:55

Say you were stuck in a car at the bottom of a lake.  What would be the best way to get out of it?  Can you just open a window, wait for the water to fill it up and then swim out?  Where would all the air go?

You take out your handphone and fucking call 911 before the air runs out. And never drive again, you shitty driver.

OP here.
>> 2, I don't have a hand phone. I am posting from the bottom of a lake by the way.

I suppose the best way would involve some kind of Navy SEAL scuba team with underwater glass cutters and such, plus a helicopter to airlift you to a nearby hospital.

Yeah, but what if you didn't have a handphone and nobody saw you drive into the lake?

In this day and age you losers better have a good reason for not having a handphone.

Or it was before hand phones were popularized, for example.

As for your question let me think about it.

Or I'm a massive loser who goes months without getting a call so I didn't see any point in keeping it.

The best way to get out of a car which is underwater or sinking is to:

First, open all the windows. The water pressure outside doesn't allow you to open the doors, and the faster you can get out, the closer you'll be to the surface assuming a fairly deep lake.

Second, unbuckle your seat belt. It disallows most movement, and, as such, is a major hindrance.

Third, once the water has equalized enough to allow you to open the door, do so. Doors are an even larger deterrent in your attempts at escape due to their solidity.

Four, swim to the surface. Human lungs aren't able to absorb oxygen from the water, which you are now submerged in. Also, ignore the baby in the back. Babies are excellent swimmers.

unless you're a rich white woman don't expect the police to show up in time.

best bet it to cover your eyes and face, and kick the larger windows (the windshield or the rear) (?) as hard as you can, once you make a break in it you can keep kicking to shatter the rest if the water pressure does not break the entire thing alone.
obviously, keep your head above the water as long as possible and swim up when you have a big enough hole.

Did you seriously just ask "Where would all the air go"?

How would you open all of the windows if you were still in your seat belt? I guess you are assuming that OP has power windows, but those would likely be shorted out due to the contact with the lake water.

Why would you wait until the car was on the bottom of the lake before trying to get out? Seems like the better idea would be to get out before the car reached the bottom.

Risky.  If you do manage to escape the car while it's still falling, it would still cause enough turbulence to keep pulling you under.  So long as you're in the car, you at least have air, and when the car's settled you can escape in a more controlled manner.
