The "official" measurement system in the U.S. is American Standard. Although we're taught in High School (at least I was) to be able to use the metric system as well. Perhaps eventually we should, I find using metric to be easier to use and calculate than the current system.

Americans pretend not to like government imposed reforms, so change would have to originate in businesses, from where the U.S industry meets the scientific fields, and where it meets the rest of the world.
