Whats in it for the biomedical scientist?

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-20 3:50

I'm well into my first year of a general science degree and it's going pretty well so far, but the more I'm learning about each field the more I'm beginning to realise there isn't much employment opportunity in this, at least where I'm from.

Perhaps that was too much information, since what I really want to ask is if there is more job opportunities for someone with a degree in biomedical science. I was planning on doing a major in biochem or molecular biology, and so a BMS degree has grown appealing since for the most part it IS those things but geared toward medical research. (As is to my understanding. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong.) I'm just keeping my options open at this stage, but I'd like to know more about BMS, so if anyone has experience in the field please share some wisdom.

Probably worth noting that I'm not concerned about the grades needed for the course transfer, since I'm on a stable (so I hope) high distinction average.

Should get you started OP. I'm not an expert by any means but feel free to ask a specific question.

Yes there are plenty of job opportunities.  Go ask your co-op advisor for one.

Yo, I'm in 3rd year BSc majoring in biomedical sciences, sub majors human anatomy and physiology.  I'm going in to medicine next year (which a lot of people do after science, if you wanted to head that way), but the real opportunities are in research/lab work.  A lot of unis run summer projects/research subjects where you get to work in a lab for a bit, see if it interests you.  Otherwise you'd be heading to the commercial field,  which is other lab work (with a biomed or biochem major).

also it getz you chixnbabes

Not with all these unemployed PhDs floating around.

Better wait a few years.

Don't change these.
