Why do people get emotional about such an arbitrary thing as the classification of a heavenly body? Because you have a nostalgic childhood memory of learning 9 planets? What a stupid reason, the model of the solar system has changed and still is. You know, Pluto's orbit is actually littered with objects almost the size of Pluto itself? More complex terms are needed to describe what we know is true and to be opposed to this is to demonstrate your own ignorance.

Because pigeonholing is something profoundly anchored in the American civilisation, and the difficulty to pigeonhole Pluto, or worse, recategorise it, is profoundly disturbing.

While they are out there I haven't seen a thread here, if one is here, then why not post that reply there? It just threw me off because you made a thread that looked more like a response than an original post.

lol, what? Sorry if that's the real reason. Why do you think no one in France or Italy gives a fuck that Pluto was demoted? Cause we don't have the same pigeonholing issues.

It was really because of cultural reasons. The fact that Pluto was classified as a Planet for seventy-six years is quite something. It was referenced as a Planet in many, many, films, television shows, fiction and non-fiction literature, comic books, magazines, ect. I am an American, and the classification of Pluto as a ``Dwarf Planet'' didn't really bother me. I was excited when Eris was discovered. But of course they would of had to do something about Pluto since Eris is slightly larger. And there could be Trans-Neptunian objects that are even larger than Eris, that have yet to be discovered.

because people suck and are satisfied with behaving like stupid animals even if they have the potential to do better.

Yup. When Science brings them a better TV or a new cure for an illness they're all over it, but try to organize your files a bit and they get confused and go apeshit.
