Aerospace minor with Mech. major?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-04 12:32

I'm somewhat torn as to what I should do.  I'm a third year mechanical engineering major with about 1.5 years left before I can graduate.  However, I've been contemplating getting an AE major.  Most companies I'm interested in joining are typically defense contractors that deal with AE a lot (missiles, jets, cargo planes, and the like).  However, I've heard that ME can substitute for AE a good bit, at least when dealing with mechanical things (which is much of an aircraft). ME cannot substitute for AE when dealing with structure analysis and jet propulsion.

So do any of you have knowledge of these two areas, as well the pros and cons of both?

Personally I enjoy aircraft and would like to work with them in the future in some manner.

I've was torn between aero and mechanical too so this thread is relevant to my interests. Still, OP don't you have like counselors or teachers to ask this kinda shit?

I would say go for aero since that seems to be what you're interested in. If it's a shitload more work to switch it might not be worth it though. Look at what specific companies want from you.

Don't change these.
