Rotational work done against gravity.

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-20 0:26

I have a uniform rod of know mass and length rotating about one end so it goes from horizontal to vertical.
How do I calculate the work done against gravity?

I'm pretty sure it's not just mgh, since the centre of mass moves round the arc of a circle.

No, it's just that. Any work done by/against gravity can be read out as the change in potential energy.

Don't change these.
