I've just started my cell bio class, he want's us to elaborate on the equation; (OH)*(H)=10^-14 asking what does this mean? I imagine that it has something to do with calculating pH. This is background stuff for extra credit. I've never seen this before in my damn life. A quick google search nets me a link to his fucking course outline.

Any ideas?

concentration of OH- times concentration of H+ is always 10^-14 mol in water

So, would that be 10^-14 molarity?

Well it means that pH plus pOH is always 14, and so a neutral solution would have pH = pOh = 7.  Those things are calculated as -1 times the logs of the concentrations for the purpose of haveing nicer numbers to work with.
