God schmod. There is no evidence -- not one shred -- to support the Cartesian mind/body split, which, if you think about it, is a prerequisite for most religious belief; souls, heaven, all that rot.

There is increasing testable evidence that self, mind, consciousness, blah blah, exist within the 'mechanisms' of the body. That, for example, human (and possibly other animal) self-consciousness involves mirror-neurons.

THere is no evidence whatsoever that your mind is some ineffable phlogiston that occupies the same place as your body while it's alive.

I suppose you can still cling to an invisible sky god that created all this matter. WHat the hell, call it gaia. Anthropomorphism really is a useful way to talk about complex things; when say "my car doesn't want to start this morning" I'm not really believe it is 'making a decision', it's a slightlt humorous way to sum up a bunch of (at the moment) complex unknowns.
