The other day I spent about €2000 of lab materials doing a large PCR plate, only to have it's head asplode in the thermocycler.
The PCR reagents were Qiagen, the recipe was for normal PCR, the plate was a 96-well, sealed with one of those clear plastic strips as instructed by supervisor.
I'm assuming that steam pressure built up and made a mess, but any idea what I Should have done?

you never know...perhaps OP will discover something important.

Also, check the "lid temperature" on the PCR machine. Maybe don't set it higher than 95 or so.

Kind of related. I'm in a debate with a stormfag, and he asked me to explain what I mean when I say "there is more variation within than between racial groups therefore race is a social construct." Truth be told, I have no idea what it means. What does it mean?

If there is more (alleged) variation within a racial group than between racial groups, and race was not a social construct, then there should be more difference in culture/behaviour/whatever within a racial group than between two racial groups. Conversely, if there is more genetic variation within groups, yet black people tend to exhibit one behaviour (stupid nigger) and asian people tend to exhibit another behaviour (learn calculus and play 3 instruments by grade 6), then race is a social construct; the members of racial group exhibit similar behaviour in spite of the fact that there is (allegedly) more variation within the group than between two groups.
Unfortunately for this theory, there are obviously more genetic differences between an asian and a black than between two blacks. You should stop now because your argument sucks.

It means you are a vile, genocidal piece of shit repeating retarded memes. It really does not mean anything in regards to race. It is entirely a red herring. Selection did not act on the whole genome, due to the lack of adaptive value in doing so, so the within is obviously bigger than between. In fact, most mammal races have more variation within than between than humans. About the only one more naturally differentiated are chimpanzees.
