Unless you've got a disease (fairly common, actually), it just means that your gums aren't in great shape. Brushing more often and especially FLOSSING will keep them healthy and will strengthen them in a relatively short amount of time (I'd guess a week or two, but I'm no dentist).

I went through a period when I was a kid where I was almost afraid of brushing my teeth because they bled, which was because I didn't brush regularly. And, embarrassingly enough, until only about two years ago, I wouldn't floss because they bled and it hurt every time I did it, which again was because they weren't very healthy because I hadn't been taking care of them.

tl;dr: Brush more often and FUCKING FLOSS (at least twice a day).

Oh, and you might want to use a soft-bristled brush until your gums are in better shape.

Oh, and mouthwash should also help too, if you don't already do that.

This anon is correct. It's going to hurt for 1-2 months and you're going to bleed like a mother too but the only way to get your gums stronger is to brush and floss vigorously till they stop bleeding and hurting. Trust me, I know personally.

Twice a day!? Someone has an inordinate amount of time on their hands.

Enjoy your cavities and halitosis.

If your teeth require that much maintenance, you're eating incredibly wrong and/or have very poor genes.

I went through a period of 5-6 years in which I was depressed and only brushed my teeth when I had to go outside. When I went to the dentist after all these years I only had 2 small cavities. Maybe it's because my grandma used to feed me these fluoride pills.

Ask any dentist and he/she will tell that proper oral hygiene at a MINIMUM would be:

Morning- Brush for at least two minutes, making sure to brush the back as well. Mouth wash is optional but recommended because it kills a lot of the bacteria that grew in your mouth while you were sleeping. Flossing is mandatory. It gets between every crevice your brush missed and rids of the shit stuck between them.

Afternoon (optional)- Just a quick 2 minute brusher. No one really does this but it helps your teeth extremely healthy if you do.

Evening- Same as morning.

Minimum oral hygiene wouldn't contain an optional step.
