Can 0.999999~ = 1???

This has been fascinating me since I first heard about the idea from my scientologist group

Take a basic Calculus class you worthless piece of shit.

Of course 0.999999~ can equal 1.  But only if we can allow 15 to be equal to 9000 or 3.5 can equal 4.  Learn your symbols.  - meaning "equals" or "equal to" or "is the same as".
