I'm starting college in the fall.

Computer Science.

But my math skills are like swiss cheese, and I never bothered with chemistry.

Of course, I'm taking General Chemistry and Calculus. Prereqs and all that.

Here's the deal; Anyone have anything I can use, or somewhere I can go to brush up on these subjects? Everything from Algebra to Geometry and Calculus itself wouldn't hurt. As for Chem, anything would be a help. I never really bothered to study it myself.

I was homeschooled (I didn't have much of a say) and I feel like my education isn't the sturdiest. Go figure. So anyways, any help?

Here's a reality check for you:
1) most freshmen in CS took AP calculus in highschool and in general paid attention in math. If you don't feel comfortable with algebra at this point, you'll never survive upper level CS courses which require tons of discrete math/combinatorics/proofs.
2) you probably have no social skills or communication skills and will not be able to get along with other students.
3) Freshman chemistry generally assumes that you've been introduced to most of the concepts before in highschool, and therefore moves quickly. But even if you understand the concepts, you'll probably fuck up on unit conversions and other simple math on tests and get terrible grades.

Get a highschool math book and do the problems.

All first year math is easy.  You just have to extract messages from the hieroglyphs in the textbook into English to understand them.  Once you can do that, it should be easily to translate it back into mathematical language.

Anyways, go learn about logarithms, periodic functions, and some statistics, and there you go, you're all set.

CS grad student here.

I started in remedial math. Don't let any faggot tell you that you can't do something because you were not some spoiled asian AP brat. I didn't give a shit about math in HS. I honestly don't understand how you could learn anything meaningful from most HS math teachers anyway.

I fucked around Peru for 3 years then came back and started ground up. Basic Algebra all the way through trig and pre-calc, clac, diff eqs, finally discrete math. Took me 6 fucking years and about 50 credits of math courses, but honestly, I think I have a stronger grasp than most 17 year olds who went straight from HS to struggle through Calc 2.

at first, I don't really think that coding is FUN, but if you try it SERIOUSLY it could become fun.

I never got better than B- in every math subjects..

It's just been over a year since I started with Elementary Algebra and I've just recently picked up Complex Analysis. Here's some books I used.

1. ``Algebra'' by Izrailʹ Moiseevich Gelʹfand, Alexander Shen.
2. Any generic Euclidean Geometry book. Supplemented by things such as ``Plane Euclidean Geometry'' by Gardiner and Bradley (for UK people.) Perhaps ``Geometry Revisited''.
3. Generic Coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry book.
4. ``Elements of Set Theory and Logic'', or ``An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning: Numbers, Sets and Functions'', or ``A Concise Introduction to Pure Mathematics''. Any book on mathematical proof, basically.
5. ``Calculus'', Volume I, Second Edition by Apostol. ``Calculus'' by Spivak. (Spivak is probably the preferred choice!)
6. ``Conjecture and Proof'' by Miklos Laczkovich.
7. ``Calculus'', Volume II, Second Edition by Apostol. (Covers some probability.)
8. ``Mathematical Analysis'' by Apostol or ``Principles of Mathematical Analysis'' by Rudin. Accompanied by ``Real and Complex Analysis'' by Shilov.
9. ``A First Course in Abstract Algebra'' by Fraleigh.

Then you can most probably walk down any route to things such as Number Theory or Discrete Mathematics!
