Mathematics vs economics degree

Which degree is more valued?

I could do honours in either, but the math route at my uni seems to be about twice as much work, which is pissing me off. I prefer math but is it worth busting my ass for?

fuck it, do what you want

More valued by whom?

I think it depends. A Econ/math degree is worth more on it's own. But a math degree from an exceptional university, or masters/Phd in maths is worth tons more.

Depends on the degree. Where's it from? What university? Generally  speaking, a degree in mathematics alone isn't "worth" much. Pair it with computer science or something and that's a different story.

These anons are rights though. Do what you love and everything else will work itself out.

Then everyone should do drama and arts degrees.

No, I hate doing drama and arts.

So unimaginative that you can't conceive of people liking science and mathematics for their own sakes?

By math, do you mean
a) stochastic analysis and numerical PDEs etc.?
or
b) algebraic topology, operator theory etc.?

Because if you mean b) the only thing it's good for outside math and perhaps physics, is showing that you're a good learner. From what I've heard a) is valued, especially if you know some computer science as well. (At least that's what the investment bank people told us mathematicians when trying to recruit us.)

investment bank people want mathematicians who know computer science because business majors and economics students in general are retards who can't learn anything past basic middle school algebra (and still struggle with this), so they can't understand or effectively utilize any NEW BLEEDING EDGE MODELS and OH GOD FOURIER.
