Effects of pornography

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-18 17:04

Does anyone know about this subject? On the Web, there are a few summaries of "studies" about this subject, but the studies seem to have presuppositions, and their conclusions seem to be prejudiced. It looks like there is lots of uncertainty as to what the effects of pornography are, yet people jump to conclusions.

On the one hand there are the religious nutcases, who will always say pornography is bad regardless of evidence, and on the other hand there are the extreme leftist nutcases who will always say that it's OK to have lots of sex with lots of people and watch lots of pornography, even though absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence.

So there seems to be lots of uncertainty in this field. What do you know about this?

There's the potential for abuse, much like gambling, and if you do it too much you risk physically harming yourself (chafing, etc.).

Other than that, whack away.

Soft core pornography causes a decrease in agression, hard core pornography causes an increase (Zillman, not sure what year). Excitation-Transfer theory, look it up.

>>3 Isn't excitation-transfer theory some obscure theory? When I Googled, I got this Results 1 - 10 of about 1,090.

Personally I believe (I've heard this expressed elsewhere so it's not of my own devising) that too much pornography reduces your appeciation of real women (the kind of women that will actually consider fucking you when not drunk). And that is only a superficial beauty thing - think about the actual acts as well (violent oral sex, anal sex, rough sex etc) that depreciate your views of what sex should be, or how to enjoy it.

I think at it's best pornography allows for a release of our deepest animal instincts - and at it's worst it allows for a relese of our deepest animal instincts.

Don't change these.
