let's say you drive a 4 wheel rc car towards a wall. what's the force required to drive the front wheels up the wall?

i've been told that each tire needs to produce LESS than 1/4 the total weight of the car. i just can't work it out that way.

this is a design project problem. they don't make motors torquey enough to produce 1/4 the weight of my little car, but it's close. if it's slightly less, i'm saved and i can find some motors. see if you guys can work this out better than i can. save my life.

It would depend also on the height of the front fender. If it was higher than the front wheels by much, the forward force would produce an upward force as well....but if the front fender is no higher than the front tires, friction against the wall may make it impossible.

i figured it out. quite simple, really. the force required at the front wheels works out to the coefficient of friction squared times the normal force at the rear wheel. assuming a cg dead center and a mu of 1, the normal force would be weight/2, so the force required from each of the two front wheels would be 1/4 the weight. however, mu will be less than one, making the force considerably less than 1/4 the weight.

You won't be able to drive the front wheels up the wall. Why, you ask? It's simple. If you crash into a brick wall at any speed, the force generated will cause the back of your car to be thrown in the air, resulting in the front of the car being pressed downwards.

make the front tires very large and grippy, with nothing in front of them vehicle wise. then it's just a matter of friction and force to pull the front up the wall.

As a bonus, why not put something on the front of the car that will hit the corner between the wall and the floor and push up/backwards (a little). That would reduce the whole risk of just hitting the wall and bouncing back.

Does anyone think that's not totally retarded? I think it might help.
