The subject is art

One art that comes to mind is the painting Voice of Fire.  It is three stripes of paint.  Two of the stipes are the same colour.

Now here is a typical "new new math" question seen in the schools:  can you arrange the stripes so that no two stripes of the same colour lie next to each other?

It's stupidly trivial, but it seems to be leading to thoughts about basic mathematical properties of lines and graphs and shit.
