U can represent human chromosome 1 like a string of 247249719 symbols (a,c,g,t).

Sequence >>1 is just a substring of chromosome 1, in particular the first 1000bp.

So the string in >>1 is the first 1000bp chunk of human machine code.

Simplest proteins are not less of 100 aminoacids long. For example insulin one of the smallest protein known is 110 aa (human version).

So, to code insulin u need (110 * 3) + 3 dna symbols (called nucleotides).

Why *3? Because there are 20 (or 22... including the 2 not much used) aminoacids thar are used in living beings to make proteins.
The cheapest way to code for 20 things with an alphabet of 4 symbols is by using words of size 3.

Why +3? Oh, not so important, it is just the stop codon that marks the "protein coding section" end.

Virus typically have genomes ranging from 10^3 to 10^4 bp. "Simple" life forms like bacteria have genomes on the order of 10^7 bp. Human genome is around 4 * 10^9 bp long.

The funny thing is that there are plants and animals (eg. puffer fish) with bigger genomes than the human one.
