Lightning and sound

If lightning struck a large bell with no claper, would the bell still sound? would it sound more like a gong? would it break?

if some of the energy discharged into the bell is spent in heat (which it probably will be), and heat is essentially motion, and motion in a sufficiently dense surrounding atmosphere will produce sound, then there will generally be sound.
So yes, there will be sound.
