Specifically, how much information can a neuron, or a small clump of neurons process.  Has anyone been able to make a simple computer using them yet?

That's a tricky question man.

One neuron can not really hold any amount of information. One neuron can have certain qualities that make it more or less likely  for an "action potential" to occur. An action potential (AP) is when the membrane of the neuron depolarizes, causing it to interact with other neurons, possibly causing their AP or preventing AP. A wikipedia search for neuron will set you up there with some good info.

As far as man made computers, search for neural networks.

Interesting stuff.
