There is a 1 kilogram mag lev train in space that propels itself by converting 1 joule of electric energy into kinetic energy per second. There is no resistance and the train's mass remains constant during the experiment. What is it's acceleration?

OP here, I am uncertain of the answer and I have another question. Here is my speculation...
Ke=(mv^2)/2=1=(v^2)/2
2=v^2
v=2^0.5=increase in velocity per second
a=2^0.5
If this is true I have another question. If the train converted 2 joules per second...
2*2=v^2
v=2
a=2
Why doesn't the train accelerate at double the rate it did when it was expending 1 joule per second? Is my idea of energy warped? Where have I gone wrong, someone explain..

Why is the relationship between kinetic energy and momentum the way it is? Why do you need more and more energy to increase acceleration the same amount? What about the relationship between power and force?

Why doesn't the train accelerate at double the rate it did when it was expending 1 joule per second?
Because the acceleration of the train is not directly proportional to the power expended. Start with this:
K = mv^2/2
The question gives us power, so differentiate with respect to t:
dK/dt = m*2v*(dv/dt)/2
P = mva
a = P/mv
And there's your answer. The question does not give the current velocity of the train, so we can't figure out its acceleration.

P = F V
P = m a v (M = 1, P = 1)
1 = a v
1 = dv/dt v
dt = v dv
t = 1/2 v^2
2t = v^2
v = (2t)^.5
a = dv/dt
a = (2t)^(-0.5)

Fail, t = 1/2 v^2 + C. If you set C=0 you assume v(0)=0 which is not necessarily the case.

My derivation still kicks ass.

OP here, i am in hospital and there were complications removing my catheter. I was in a considerable amount of pain so I will contemplate this later. You have openned up new perspectives but haven't really answerred my question. More input is welcome..
#8, how can there possibly be complications with removing a catheter? Catheters are abnormal intrusions in the first place. Just pull the damned thing out. Hell, catheters are often taped in place, which shows that gravity and body motion may make them fall out in the first place. Catheters just want to be free! Libérez le cathéter!! La liberté de cathéter de mai supportent!!
as E->infinity, a->0 from a frame that was at rest in relation to the object at t=0, the reason for this is that as the object approaches relativistic speeds, the energy starts going into a mass increase rather than a speed increase, as the object can never reach the speed of light.

*FUCK* you're stupid. They aren't taped down to keep them from falling out, they're taped down to avoid injury by having it snagged on something and ripped out sideways.
A possible complication that can arise in removing one is EXACTLY THE ABOVE, i.e. your vein gets ripped open and blood flows everywhere.
God dammit. You're making us intelligent atheists look bad, and you're just generally annoying the shit out of everyone. Seriously RedCream, just go the fuck away.

First of all, I don't think OP cared for the relativistic limit. Second of all, "energy starts going into a mass increase rather than a speed increase" is a very common saying, though not completely accurate. The extra "mass" gained by the particle does not behave the same way as the inertial mass it had originally.
#12, I've never had a catheter, so must rely on sight and sound. Does that make me stupid? No, it just makes me ignorant about a million tiny things in life ... just like everyone else (and you). Ignorance is not stupidity. However, insisting that it is, IS stupid. You're supposed to know the difference between ignorance and stupidity by now.
At any rate, falling out, getting ripped out -- the gist of my message was correct. Catheters are taped down to stop unplanned removal. If a jerking force is more important in that regard than gravity, then I stand corrected in the detail. (Ooooh. Me so spanked! Surely this correction counters any argument I'd make about anything whatsoever!)
Furthermore, I can't imagine how I'm making "you" "intelligent atheists" (i.e. hubris-drenched cockknockers) look bad, since all I'm doing is insisting on PROOF of this giant alien space monster that the religgies continue to claim exists and allegedly is very interested in our lives. Until I get a sufficient answer (i.e. either the admission that they believe in something that doesn't exist, or that they're mentally afflicted) I'm never going away.
(It's probably time for people to start posting under my namefaggoting moniker, since that's the next step in trying to get somebody to STFU.)
P.S. Any email I receive regarding my postings on 4chan will be reposted and addressed publicly. Word to the wise.

#12, I've never had a catheter, so must rely on sight and sound. Does that make me stupid? [...] Ignorance is not stupidity.
It is when you pretend to know about it, and when you condescend to other people with your uninformed cynicisms. Read your goddamn post >>9 again. See how pretentious and insulting you are, especially in the face of someone's injury? Stop being so fucking pompous, especially when you obviously have NO knowledge of the subject in question.
At any rate, falling out, getting ripped out -- the gist of my message was correct. Catheters are taped down to stop unplanned removal.
Way to try to weasel out of the argument. Eat shit.
#15, you drew the inference about what I knew, not me. I just stated. Instead of pointing out how I was wrong in the detail, you asserted that I was somehow "stupid". Ignorance is not stupidity. The ego barrier here is YOURS.
Our lives are filled with millions of erring points and tiny ignorances. I admit to mine, but by the very nature of ignorance, I don't know what they are. Time and events will tell.
And if you don't like my confidence of making assertions, then you can go straight to a hell that doesn't exist, but would be useful in existing for the likes of hyperagressive and hypoconfident turdballs like yourself. {lifts a mirror} Oh, look #15, I've found another "fucking pompous" ass. Go get him, Killer!
