This much smaller(?) difference can be explained considering the situation for a Black growing up. Who's (s)he going to identify with? What role figures will there be for him? Hip hop, gangsta?
Will he get shit for beating his fellow (white) students? Being black, society expects less from him, and rather treats him as a (potential) criminal. Is it really surprising that blacks, who we for some reason don't expect to perform as well academically, really do perform worse?
