Does infinity exist?

Name: Anonymous 2007-05-19 2:48 ID:7qKyUllO

So I got to thinking, why do digits extend into infinity past the decimal, is it impossible to reach an atomic number which cannot be divided. I think that asserting that there is always a .999 for  everything is making a dangerous assumption. It begs the question, does infinity exist? Of course that is relative, it is easy to have .99 dollars, or .9999999 populations of the earth, but is there a measurement of subatomic particles with a cap on the number of 9's you can have?

does infinity exist in the real world?  doesn't matter.
does infinity exist as a mathematical construct we made?  yes

i wouldn't say it doesn't matter if it doesn't exist in nature, but yes, its completely existent and sensical in mathematics.

Does the number 1 exist?

Math is abstract. None of it 'exists'.

lol retarded definition of existence.

Maths is perfect and we can have an infinite number of places.
However when applied to the real world, Scientists and Engineers long ago realised that 'close was fscking close enough'. Hence they usually take the first 4 significant figures for most basic implementations (unless they're really pedantic).
