Color changing star??

I had my telescope out a few minutes ago looking at the moon and

stars and noticed something odd.  There was a star(?) maybe west

southwestish, I dunno, I was just messing around.  What was wierd

was that it changes colors, between greenish and red, sort of like

a tacky christmas light.  I'm in central North Carolina and it's

about a fifth of the way up the sky now.  Anyone know what the heck

it is?  I thought maybe a satelite but I wouldn't expect it to be

so bright and maybe to move more than it did.  Anyone have any

clue?
