The "x" in this case stands for "by". It's read as "Hunter by Hunter". Don't ask what that's supposed to mean. I'm assuming you are referring to a manga title and the Japanese often use words foreign to their language in unusual ways, or so I hear.
Sasan Eyes, also called 3 by 3 Eyes. It's the story of a boy who gets his soul mingled with the soul of a god-like girl and becomes her immortal protector as a result. Loved the manga(the little bit of it I read), and the anime. What guy wouldn't like a piece of Pai?

Acually >>9 it's a mathematical forumla by /sci/ standards.
and depending on what perspective you are looking at the fromula it could be.
1. a simple fact, that 3x3eyes = 9eyes.
2. an 2d array of 'eyes'.
3. two stupidly named variables,'3x3' and 'eyes' that are undefined.
It is science: The science of interpretation. One theory says mathematical formula, and another theory says shorthand("x" = "by"). The examples used just happened to also be manga/anime titles.
