So I took a course in complex analysis and everything was well (sorta) until the prof. said that x/0 is infinity.. I was like WTF!!! I stood up and confronted the guy and argued everything 4chan and wikipedia has taught me but he wouldn't relent and asked me to calm down (at that point I was very upset and panting), and then a couple of students tried to get me to sit down and shut up but FUCK! I stood up for the truth when nobody else would what the fuck is this neocon faggot going to teach me false maths so they called security and threw me out. i refused to attend college fron then on because they're all a bunch of fucking kikes spreading bushilters propaganda and anyway i couldn't since i was thrown out, so I got in touch with some sympathetic people online and we planned some righteous revenge on the fucking university and they were doing it for allah or whatever but who cares? so we wanted to blow up the maths faculty i got the keys but the fucking fascist government got us somehow and now i'm in jail. the guard has a copy of Ahlfors' book and keeps taunting me. i tell him how Ahlfors is a fucking dirty bloodsucking kike but he won't listen to me why won't anyone listen to me?

x/(any really small number, including 0) = very large number, thats why its not defined. Most people will say that any number divided by 0 is infinity. Infinity and zero don't play nicely though

Infinity is not a number. 0*infinity makes no sense. If you want to describe something like "0 added to itself infinitely", you have to use better terminology (i.e. sum_{x=0}^{infinity}0), otherwise the statement is ambiguous.

Let's do this by example. Most people think 1/0 is infinity, right? Okay, but what's 1/(0^2)? Is it still infinity? What about 1/sqrt(0)?

These distinctions are important, because suppose you have the expression x*(1/x). As x goes to zero, what does this approach? By your logic, we get x*(1/x) = 0*infinity = 0. That's wrong; this expression approaches 1 (it has a removable singularity at 1). But suppose we take x*(1/(x^2)). Now that DOES approach zero. Suppose we take x*(1/sqrt(x)). That goes to infinity.

This is why we say 0*infinity is undefined. Infinity as a number is simply not useful in mathematics. It just doesn't work.

Dumbfucks, C and C-extended are different sets. On the complex plane, you can't divide by infinity. The extended complex plane, however, is the set consisting of C and a point labeled infinity. On C extended, division by 0 is perfectly defined as the point infinity.

Yes no matter how many 0s you add you can never get anything other than 0, but infinity isn't a number, it's a concept and it describes the amount of 0s needed to fit into 1.

It's not a matter of agreement. In evaluating something like 0/0 or 0^0, you have conflicting rules and the whole must therefore be undefined. In the case of infinity, it's just not a number.
