He's absolutely right, but (in my expert opinion) homeschooling shelters most people in bad ways. He'd be better off just augmenting her normal learnings on her free time until she got to college.

Well, in MY expert opinion, homeschooling through elementary school and possibly junior high is fine (when done well) - it's homeschooling through high school that tends to produce sheltered (read: socially retarded) people.
