Two almonds in the same shell

What the fuck is going on when I find two almonds in the same shell?  Are they identical twins or fraternal twins?

Fraternal I would think, seems to me that the female part of the plant must have released two "eggs" into one womb.  That's just a very uninformed guess though.

We need to get someone in here who actually knows what the hell they're talking about.
