a² = (a-1)*(a+1) + 1

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-20 18:25

a^2 = (a-1)*(a+1) + 1

example:
999^2 = (998)*(1000) + 1
998001 = 998000 + 1

isn't it great?
well, you can change the 1 by whatever:
a^2 = (a-n)*(a+n) + n^2

so like, 3^2 = 2*4 - 1
I dig

((a-1)*(a+1)) + 1 = (a^2+a-a-1)+1 = a^2

3^2 = 2*4 + 1

10*2 = 2*4 + 8

im smart lol

a^2 = (a-1+1)^2 = ((a-1)+1)((a-1)+1) = (a-1)^2 + 2(a-1) + 1
(a-1)^2 = ((a+1)-2)^2 = ((a+1)-2)((a+1)-2) = (a+1)^2 - 4(a+1) + 4

a^2 = (a+1)^2 - 4(a+1) + 2(a-1) + 5

limit of a^2 as a approaches 0 = limit (a+1)^2 - 4(a+1) + 2(a-1) + 5 as a approaches 0

= (0+1)^2 - 4(0+1) + 2(0-1) + 5
= 1 - 4 - 2 + 5
= 0

problem solved.

Don't change these.
