The Golden Ratio

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-09 10:34

could anyone attempt to explain the Golden Ratio to a layman?

it's just the ration 1:(1+srqt(5)/2

you got a special rectangle.  you make a ratio of the two sides of the rectangle.  it will equal the golden ratio only if the longer side divided by the shorter side equals the two sides added together divided by the longer side.  a/b = (a+b)/a

You get the same figure if you divide the length of a diagonal  of a regular pentagon  by the length of a side. (a diagonal is a line segment joining two corners that aren't next to each other, a regular pentagon is a 5-sided shape whose sides and angles are all the same)

If you make Fibonacci sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and so on so that the next term is always the sum of the two earlier terms, then if you make a sequence of dividing pairs of these terms like this 1/1, 2/1, 3/2, 5/3, 8/5, 13/8, and so on, the ratios get closer and closer to the golden ratio as you continue.

5^.5*.5+.5

It's just an approximation of the human face and body that artists use. A bunch of fags superstitiously connected it to arbitrary mathematical patterns, but you can do that to any number.

For instance remember the numer 23. Everytime it crops up in real life, note it down. Or consider the fact that if you selected 23 people at random there would be a 50% chance that 2 of them share a birthday.

its a fractal pattern

Explain please

this is unrelated to >>5 's lack of understanding of what phi is.

OP here.

thanks >>3 for a simple explanation i can grasp.

also about the superstitious faggotry and whatnot.  i'm inclined to agree, despite my limited knowlegde, as i only endeavoured to learn more about the golden ratio after hearing that BT and various other musicians incorporated it into the design of their album cover art =/

The golden ratio is supposed to be aesthetically pleasing when incorporated into art, architecture, and the human body. Artists would say it is an instinctive affinity.

And on the superstitious applications of the fib sequence: it is quite a unique pattern that is found all throughout nature, and is easy to apply to mystical philosophies. To be sure it IS quite astounding.

could anyone attempt to explain the Golden shower to a hymen?

It's a rectal pattern.

No stupid you don't piss with your ass, you piss with your penis

Hymens are unfamiliar with penises, they need sprays of diarrhea from assholes as an analogy.
