Rational ways to increase power

I want to become the most powerful being on Earth.  How do I accomplish this?

Try starting a cult, then get powerful people involved.

For a start you need to gain as much information as possible and calculate the best way to become as powerful as possible. From the information I have, the best way to gain power would be to study law, hijack a political movement in a 1st world nuclear power and use your knowledge to scratch a few backs here and there, blackmail, assassinate your way into power. You will face a lot of competition and criticism and it is unlikely you will succeed.

It is better to take the least riskiest route to power, so it is unlikely you will be killed or spend your life in prison. There is no chance of you becomming a super-dictator, but you will gain power.
